Here's what you can eat at the Asheville Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival returns to the Asheville Outlets for the second year.

The fest will bring more than 20 food trucks and more than 50 local and national craft brews to the outlets, highlighting the explosion of both industries.

"When we started our company, Food Truck Festivals of America six years ago, our list of trucks was eight," said spokesperson Janet Prensky. Now, she said, the festival can count 4,000 trucks among its arsenal of participating vendors.

Food Truck Festivals of America also produces the Vegetarian Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival, and has also featured a Vegan Food Truck Festival.

Surely, there will be vegetarian options among the 20 food trucks participating in the Oct. 6 festival.

The Charlotte-based Yummi Banh Mi truck, for example, has tofu banh mi sandwiches among its more traditional pork-based options, and the Macarollin' mac-and-cheese truck has plenty of meatless options, too.

But there's plenty of meaty fare for carnivores, and seafood too. Find several barbecue trucks, plenty of ice cream, fish and chips, poke bowls and lobster rolls sold from a mix of local, regional and national trucks.

It's a whole new mobile food world out there, Prensky said. "The industry has just exploded. And Asheville is really getting it when it comes to an appreciation of the trucks - and of course a love for beer."
